FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Please refer to the FAQ section below.

In this section I’ve put together answers to frequently asked questions.

1.What costs are involved?

Costs are calculated at an hourly rate. The amount of the hourly rate depends on:

• Complexity
• Urgency of the matter (immediate intervention may be charged at a higher rate)
• Whether the client is an individual or a company

In mediation for individuals, the parties normally share the costs.

Additional costs, such as travel expenses and hotels may also be incurred. In Business Mediations the cost of seminar spaces can also arise. Mediation carried out at a neutral location is much more effectively, so the additional costs of conducting mediation at a seminar space in a hotel are highly recommended.

The cost of conflict management seminars depend on:

• Length of the seminar
• Number of participants

2.In what language is the mediation conducted?

My meditations and seminars are held in German or English.

3.Is mediation confidential?

The principles of mediation are:

• Voluntary participation
• Personal Responsibility
• A good knowledge base
• Impartiality and Neutrality
• Confidentiality

Confidentiality:

At the beginning of the mediation process a contract will be signed. This agreement includes the confidentiality of the disclosed information of all participating parties. This has validity both during and after the completion of the process.

In addition the European Code of Conduct for Mediators as well applies.

4.Where does the mediation take place?

Cross Border Mediation can be performed at any agreed location. In cross-border family conflicts especially, the mediation can take place abroad.

Business Mediation takes place at the site of the company, but it is preferable to conduct mediation at a nearby hotel. A hotel is a neutral place in which all parties involved can open for a dialogue.

5.Who is involved in the mediation?

All parties to the conflict take part in mediation. If the interests of other persons are affected by the conflict, it is also useful to consult these during the mediation process. In addition, participants may bring a person they trust to mediation.

In Business Mediations, an attorney can also be used as a Co-Mediator.

6.How long does the mediation take?

That depends very much on the structure of the conflict and the number of parties to the conflict. As part of the pre-filing a rough estimate will be done. For two parties to the conflict this is usually clear after one or two sessions of two to three hours.

In mediation, with an entire work team, it may be sensible to calculate one or two whole days. In mediations involving an entire work team, it may be more realistic to calculate one or two whole days.

In all cases, non-judicial conflict resolution in the form of mediation is usually completed faster and much cheaper than the judicial system alternatives.
